Assistant Corporation Counsel-Litigation Support Division

The NYC Law Department is accepting applications from admitted attorneys for the Practice Management group of the Litigation Support Division. The Practice Management group thinks strategically and analytically about the agency’s matter and document management systems (i.e., LawManager & iManage/FileSite) to ensure that matters and documents are tracked in a way that will be most helpful to our attorneys and support professionals. Under the mentorship of the Deputy Chief of Litigation Support and a senior counsel in the group, the attorney in this role will learn the technical aspects of our agency’s data management systems and utilize their legal experience to think creatively about how to optimize how these systems can support our legal work. The attorney in this role also will act as a translator between our technical staff and our legal staff to ensure that our data management systems and any reporting that comes from our data management systems meet our business needs and legal requirements. Duties will include but not be limited to:
• learning the Law Department’s matter management system and the reports that those systems can generate;
• communicating with Law Department staff regarding reports, charts, graphs and related documents produced by the matter management systems as well as pending requests and issues;
• coordinating with Law Department divisions and users to identify, investigate and resolve technical issues; provides instructions to users as needed for issues;
• assisting to develop and implement processes to correct any issues and to ensure the accuracy and integrity of system data;
• analyzing existing protocols and updating as needed; developing new system and procedural training and protocol manuals as needed;
• planning, configuring, testing and troubleshooting and performance monitoring of the Department’s matter management system;
• assisting to develop and maintain mapping schema for migration of data as needed including to new matter management system;
• identifying data entry issues and developing processes to clean-up and correct such issues to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data;
• collaborating with system administrators, DBAs and vendors as well as other practice management personnel to develop test plans and test same in the test/staging environments before fixes/upgrades are applied/promoted to the matter management system production environment;
• conducting regular meetings and setting clearly defined objectives for self and others;
• drafting and updating system and operations documentation in both technical and non-technical terms;
• QA of reports and distributing to end users;
• making recommendations to the Deputy Chief of Litigation Support as needed including for resolution of issues, planning and training;
• assisting in special projects as needed.
