Asset Management Lead, Carbon Removal

The Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Environmental Sustainability (ES) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company – engaging with business groups on the environmental impacts of business operations and positive environmental outcomes resulting from technology and policy development.

On Microsoft’s Sustainability Commitments team, we seek a curiosity driven individual to join our carbon removal team as the Asset Management Lead, Carbon Removal . In this capacity , you will play a key role in securing carbon credits in order for Microsoft to be carbon neutral on an annual basis and carbon negative by 2030 . Our industry-leading carbon removal team has and will continue to sign agreements with suppliers of high-quality c arbon dioxide removal ( CDR). You will stand up and coordinate our activities to ensure that those agreements come to fruition, from receiving deliveries of carbon credits and other supplier reports to partnering with suppliers to address delivery challenges that may arise from time to time . You will apply an existing skillset in asset management and personal commitment to meaningful climate action to a quickly developing industry , ensuring that the CDR program has the right infrastructure to rapidly scale.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 3+ years’ experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area
  • OR 5+ years’ experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area
  • 3+ years in asset management

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in carbon markets, renewable energy, or other sustainability field
  • 3+ years’ experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization
  • 2+ years’ experience in carbon markets, renewable energy, or other sustainability field
  • 2+ years’ experience in FP&A/Finance or collaborating with FP&A/Finance as a key stakeholder
  • Advanced degree in business/MBA, economics, finance, sustainability, environmental science, or equivalent experience

Corporate Social Responsibility IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $101,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $130,000 – $213,200 per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage carbon credit deliveries , supplier invoicing, and associated credit retirements, which require u tilizing internal Microsoft systems (e.g., for invoicing) , accounts with external carbon credit registries
  • Collaborate with suppliers on material issues affecting operational projects , including partnering on any deviations to delivery plans and negotiating associated change orders as necessary
  • Advance and maintain critical processes for tracking contractual obligations and supplier delivery schedules, including managing budget deviations
  • Prepare and deliver reports summarizing the operational performance of contracted carbon removal projects and measurement relative to programmatic KPIs
  • Keep pulse on carbon removal market to understand how we may need to adapt our requirements or processes in light of a quickly developing industry
