Animal Care Attendant

Overview description
The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for the overall care of all the animals within the shelter. The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter. This is a fill in position with no guaranteed hours.
Duties Include
- Follow the shelter procedures.
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas of the shelter as often as necessary.
- Recognize and report unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any shelter animal.
- Report any signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity.
- Feed, water, and medicate animals.
- Wash, dry, and fold laundry.
- Wash and sterilize food and water bowls.
- Perform general cleaning.
- Empty trash.
- Unpacking, labeling, and stocking of shelter supplies.
- Assist in animal behavior evaluations and vaccinations.
- Other duties assigned.
Working Conditions
Work is normally done indoors but some outside work is required. There will be exposure to unpleasant odors and noises. There will also be exposure to bites, scratches, and animal waste.
Requirements
- Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
- Ability to lift 55 lbs.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Must have a flexible schedule and willingness to work holidays, weekends, and odd hours.
- Prior animal care experience is preferred but not required.
