Position Summary
Clean and maintain animal facilities and perform a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility; provide excellent animal care and customer service in accordance with the Animal Welfare Department’s mission, goals and management philosophy and provide assistance to the Animal Handlers with animal care and maintenance of kennel and adoption center facilities.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED; and
Six (6) months of animal care experience.
Some facilities maintenance experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays.
Must pass background check.

- Basic custodial practices
- General cleaning and maintenance techniques
- Safe use of cleaning chemicals and agents
- Principles and practices of humane animal handling and care
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

- Perform all types of custodial and routine building maintenance tasks
- Operate a variety of custodial equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Correctly and humanely use and apply a variety of animal handling skills
- Learn to work independently in the absence of supervision
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
