SUMMARY OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and implement of activities and programs, sporting events and other special events for the community.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Prepares annual budget for the complete operation of city-wide events, programs, projects, and services for the department and other City events/functions.
- Supervises and manages the operation of athletic events and the work of subordinate personnel engaged in event management, security, and maintenance.
- Supports purchasing in the development of RFP’s to ensure proper acquisition of equipment, materials, and services as related to the parks division.
- Attends meetings and conducts presentations to Boards, the Commission, committees, etc.
- Develops, coordinates, and implements special project assignments.
- Coordinates and attends meetings with staff members to plan programs, identifies issues and improves services/programs.
- Meets with organized groups, individuals or other interested parties to provide information, assesses athletic program needs and interests, formulates new events and furthers public relations for the City.
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains various operational and event reports on attendance, evaluations, inventory, revenue, and related information.
- Reviews and approves requisitions for materials and supplies or operations and maintenance; supervises and maintains revenue records; manages event expenditures.
- Explains and interprets rules and regulations to include user fees and event operations and enforces or refers enforcement to proper authorities.
- Serve as the marketing liaison for the department, including brochures, social media, websites and news releases.
- Performs audits on athletics programming quarterly.
- Conducts job interviews for open positions; recommends selections for hire and completes hiring process procedures.
- Ensures the safety of all programs, activity and event participants and providers by following City policies and procedures and monitoring participants’ activity.
- Monitors recreation facilities to ensure security, proper working order of equipment, cleanliness of area and other potential maintenance hazards.
- Assists in planning and monitoring programs for all ages.

Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation management or related discipline.
- Eight (8) years of progressive experience in supervising and managing large scale events or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
- Certified Crowd Manager (or complete 40-hour course during probationary period)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
- Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
WORK HOURS:
Monday – Friday: 8:00AM – 5:00PM (May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business/program needs of the City. Hours may change based on program, event and operational needs.)
