The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings, and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.

This position is in the Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness/Chronic Disease (BHIW). BHIW is comprised of programs which address prevention and improved health outcomes for Ohioans across the lifespan.

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness/Chronic Disease (BHIW) is seeking an Account Examiner 2 (A/E 2) to review the Breast and Cervical Cancer Project’s Med-IT system pending medical claims from
providers for screening and diagnostic services to determine eligibility for payment and processes accordingly.

The ideal candidate will have a call center/customer service background and proficient in using Microsoft systems. Must have strong communication and organizational skills. This position will require collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Makes corrections to claims in accordance with bureau billing policy.
  • Enters corrected data on the pending claims file via computer.
  • Provides information to providers/billing agents.

Additional Duties:

  • Handles telephone, fax, mail and email inquiries from regional enrollment agencies and provides training
    and technical assistance regarding claims issues.
  • Research status of claims upon request of provider.

  • Experience with medical/healthcare claims
  • Experience in the field of health insurance
  • Experience in coordinating third party benefits
  • Experience with Accounts Receivable/Payable

  • Experience working with spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel)

Qualifications

  • 12 mos. exp. as Accountant/ Examiner 1, 66111, with state government exp. commensurate with duties to be assigned.

-Or

  • 24 mos. exp. in position involving review & processing of claims, collections, billings, payments or review of documents for accuracy, completeness &/or compliance with reporting guidelines, laws or rules with exp. commensurate to duties to be assigned.

-Or

  • 16 semester or 24 quarter hours in accounting;
  • 12 mos. exp. in accounting or other fiscal/financial activity.

-Or

  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
