Full salary range for this position is $34,218.60 – $46,636.44. Anticipated hiring range for this position is $34,218.60 – $36,655.82 dependent on qualifications and experience.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of entry-level cleaning, supply ordering, carpentry, assisting Maintenance Technician in construction, maintenance and repair of city facilities; perform semi-skilled maintenance duties; manage custodial teams and their schedules, coverages, supplies; cover custodial duties when shorthanded; assist in the purchase of materials, supplies and equipment; maintain records related to work performed.
Perform a variety of entry-level maintenance, custodial lead, and maintenance duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of City facilities; perform semi-skilled maintenance duties.
Participate in installation, maintenance and repair in facilities to include but not limited to: painting, power washing, light repairs, light woodwork, assist in mechanical maintenance until trained, light cleaning of equipment, monthly roof cleaning of leaves and debris, window cleaning with power equipment, and other duties as assigned.
Assist custodial in floor work, buffers, scrubbers, extractors and maintenance of the equipment. Train new Custodial in floor work. Cover open shifts; manage custodial supply of chemicals and keeping supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, trash liners and soap stocked up and in buildings.
Assist maintenance technician in daily tasks as directed.
Prepare and maintain records and reports related to work performed.
Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, machinery, hand and power tools used in construction and maintenance of buildings including vacuums, scrubbers, extractors, buffers, drills, power washer, shop vacuums, saws, hand tools, and other equipment.
Perform a variety of seasonal maintenance duties such as leaf removal, snow removal, deicing of stairways and sidewalks, pool prep work, painting and window cleaning.
Lead the custodial team in scheduling, coverage, equipment use and supply ordering. Assist in performing duties when they need help, train custodians on equipment when needed, arrange team projects such as floor refinishing and cover custodial routes when staff are out.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or G.E.D. and at least six (6) months or one (1) season performing related work or sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed below.
Valid state issued driver’s license. Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Operation and proper maintenance of tools, equipment, materials, procedures and machinery used in the maintenance and custodial trades. The city will train in the skills as needed.
Oral and written communication skills.
Basic health and safety practices.
Proper lifting techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair in trade areas.
Work independently with little direction or as a member of a team.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Perform heavy physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Learn proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
Working Conditions:
Subject to indoor, outdoor and shop environments: to driving from site to site to conduct work; exposure to cleaning chemicals and other industrial chemicals; to seasonal heat, cold, temperature changes and extreme weather conditions; and to noise from equipment operation.
Physical demands include heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing and walking for extended periods of time; climbing and bending at the waist; walking over rough and uneven surfaces; crawling, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing; climbing ladders and working at heights; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools and equipment; and sight to observe and effect needed repairs.
Exposure to working on ladders or scaffolding; working in cramped or restrictive chambers; working around and with heavy machinery having moving parts; fumes from vehicles and equipment operation; dust, dirt, oil/grease and gases.
