General Statement of Duties
Performs maintenance and repairs on marine structures, buildings, and equipment for the Department of Parks and Recreation Marine & Facility Division.
Position reports to Marine & Facility Operations Foreman.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma, plus three (3) years experience in the marine trades including the maintenance, handling, storage, and mooring of moderate-sized vessels and related marine structures and equipment.
Licenses and Certifications:
T-10
Valid Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate.
Must obtain a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Masters Inland Captain’s License within eighteen (18) months of employment.
Must obtain Federal Communications Commission Marine Operators Radio License within six (6) months of employment.
T-12
Valid Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate.
Valid U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Masters Inland Captain’s License.
Valid Federal Communications Commission Marine Operators Radio License.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated knowledge of seamanship and mooring systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of the maintenance and repair of marine vessels and diesel/gasoline marine engines.
Demonstrated knowledge of the maintenance and repair of de-icing systems, generators and auxiliary equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge of the regulations of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), as pertain to the marine.
Demonstrated ability to operate machines, equipment and tools used in the building and marine trades.
Proven ability to operate the helm of a marine vessel for up to twelve (12) hours a day of up to 100 tons.
Proven ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Proven ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
Proven ability to ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with contractors, colleagues, and the public.
Demonstrated ability to perform the physical aspects of the position including, the ability to lift, stack, bend, carry up to 50 pounds, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
Proven ability to swim.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains and repairs gasoline and diesel marine engines including Town ferries.
Performs routine maintenance and repairs on generators, steel, wood and fiberglass vessels, boating and navigational equipment, facilities, docks, floats, piers, pilings and other marine structures.
Hauls, launches, and sets moorings for all assigned equipment.
Operates tractors, telehandlers, and forklifts.
Pilots motorized ferries and work vessels weighing 100 tons or less.
Serves as acting Foreman as needed.
Supports Town policies and philosophies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
