Passionate about political reporting? Also have the versatility to cover stories on a variety of beats? The Des Moines Register has an exceptional opportunity for you.
Every four years, Iowa is flooded with presidential candidates seeking to win the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses. The Register seeks a reporting intern to pitch in on that coverage. You could be paired with a veteran reporter, assigned to gather video or quotes from attendees at candidate town halls or asked to produce Instagram or TikTok posts. You could cover a candidate solo. Or you could be asked to handle stories on a nonpolitics beat, covering community or business stories while the beat reporter is away covering a presidential candidate.
This internship will run from late October through Jan. 21, just after the Iowa Caucuses.
All Register reporters are expected to produce and post stories, photos and video quickly and accurately across platforms: mobile, desktop and social media. The Register is a 17-time Pulitzer Prize winner and recognized nationally for the quality of its political reporting.
