For more than 30 years, SCCS has provided care, counseling, coaching, and essential mental health services for children, teen, young adults, and their families. As specialists in the field of mental health, SCCS employees possess diverse professional skills equipping us as a team to treat each client’s unique needs.

As a Mental Health Specialist, you will provide support, case management, and behavioral coaching to the clients and families in the Mental Health Program. You will assist the clients and families in meeting their needs using informal supports, when available, and assuring that the clients’ voice and choice are respected in the implementation of treatment.

The position is a hybrid remote position. The MHS will be required to go in the office or community at minimum one day a week. The MHS will assist clients with case management, group, and/or rehabilitation services. GMH has 2 positions available in the West and East regions of San Bernardino, CA. The West region has 2 offices in Upland and Chino, and the East Region has 2 offices in Redlands and Yucaipa.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  3. Must be able to author and produce their own emails, letters, reports and other documents in a professional manner. That is, documents and correspondence should be relatively free of grammar and spelling errors.”
  4. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of employees within the organization, to include peers, co-workers and supervisors.
  5. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to complete documentation in a timely manner.
  6. Excellent time management, organizational and follow through skills.
  7. Ability to appear to work every day and on time. Must have reliable transportation as travel up to 2 hours between office locations and within the community is required.
  8. Ability to follow directions from a supervisor.
  9. Ability to understand and follow posted, printed and/or electronic work rules and procedures.
  10. Ability to accept constructive criticism in a respectful, open and interactive manner.
  11. Experience working with people over the phone.
  12. Must have the ability to perform efficiently and effectively with multiple interruptions.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a minimum caseload of 25 -35 individuals and families.
  2. Maintain a minimum productivity level of 60 billable hours per month.
  3. Provide one-on-one interactions with the clients and/or family members.
  4. Work with the clients and/or family members to develop resources, offer support and practice parenting skills.
  5. Offer behavior coaching to adults, children and youth when it is applicable.
  6. Meet with Clinician on a regular basis to coordinate care.
  7. Unitize strength-based approach.
  8. Assist program with collection of outcomes tools.
  9. Demonstrate professional boundaries.
  10. Support and empower the clients and/or family members.
  11. Ensure that the clients and/or family members is experiencing voice, choice, and ownership of their plans and services.
  12. Listen to the family’s story and share one’s own story (as appropriate).
  13. Ensure that services are responsive to the goals, strengths and needs as identified and expressed needs
  14. Assist the clients and/or family members in accessing their natural and community resources.
  15. Promote self-sufficiency and independence.
  16. Assist in implementing Parent Support groups or Parenting classes.
  17. Follow all legal and ethical guidelines including HIPAA and Mandated Reporter Laws.
  18. Resource development and distribution.
  19. Maintain required paperwork and documentation.
  20. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience

  1. Must meet one of the following options:
    a: Thirty semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in behavioral or social science.
    b: Sixty semester (90 quarter) units of completed college coursework, which includes 15 semester (23 quarter) units in behavioral science. Psych Tech courses and Alcohol and Drug Certification courses are acceptable.
  2. Experience: Must meet one of the following options:
    a: One year of experience providing mental health services, including interviewing and referring clients and performing crisis intervention.
    b: Three years of experience in a behavioral health department, which involved direct client contact.
  3. Applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science may qualify with six months experience as described in Experience Option I or with completion of a paid, formal internship in the Department of Behavioral Health’s Social Work Intern Program with the County of San Bernardino.

BILINGUAL SPANISH STRONGLY PREFERRED
Licensure, Registration, Certification

  1. Valid CA driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
  2. Completion of CPR/First Aid/ProACT certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
