What You Will Do
The Los Alamos National Laboratory invites you to join the Finance Science, Technology, & Engineering (FIN-STE) group, supporting financial operations, reporting, and analysis for the Deputy Directorate for Science, Technology, & Engineering (DDSTE). The FIN-STE group is seeking senior financial business analysts to support a variety of customers within the Associate Laboratory Directorates for Global Security (ALDGS) as a Division Financial Lead. Each Division Financial Lead will oversee the day-to-day financial business operations of the division business team and manage a diversified funding portfolio typically consisting of budgets between $130M and $260M and FTE counts between 200 and 360.
A Division Financial Lead works with division level management and supports the technical customer in a hybrid setting. The expectation is to provide an effective onsite and offsite presence to meet the needs of the customer and facilitate business team engagement and interaction. In this setting, the position is responsible for providing budgetary formulation and execution, financial support and analysis, and general business operation services, including:
- Formulating, distributing, and maintaining budgets for a division that has multiple groups
- Analyzing trends and managing projects using actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated funding, expense reports, and other data sources to control funds and to provide proper financial administration
- Recommending, interpreting, and monitoring implementation of budgetary and financial policies and procedures
- Preparing and maintaining financial plans, regular and special-purpose reports, historical records, and variance analysis of actual costs against budgeted funds
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Finance/Accounting Experience
Advanced technical knowledge of financial concepts, including financial planning and analysis, budget formulation and execution, financial analysis, and general business operations. Advanced experience analyzing financial data and providing financial guidance and alternatives/recommendations to customers. Advanced experience identifying areas for improvement, including improving internal controls and business process efficiencies. Demonstrated ability to see institutional perspective; excellent professional judgement and technical acumen; demonstrated strong problem-solving skills in working on projects with variety of complexities.
Leadership
Experience participating as part of a division management team establishing financial performance metrics for use in management decision-making processes. Advanced experience preparing presentations to aid in communications with various customers and sponsors. Experience providing responsive leadership for all functional areas of responsibility ensuring high level customer service and support. Demonstrated experience in promoting strong working relationships with customers, management and external stakeholders with the ability in promoting the team concept by building a strong, capable, and integrated business team.
Organizational Skills
Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to independently establish priorities, manage projects, and execute complex business and financial assignments. Ability to toggle between tasks to accomplish the financial business operations and provide guidance to team members for unforeseen situations or questions.
Education/Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 8 years of experience; or, the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience directly related to the occupation. An MBA is preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
• General understanding of federal Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and appropriations law.
• Experience with Government Contractors that could include a National Laboratory or a National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy facility.
• Understanding of cost allowability and experience with Strategic Partnership Projects (SPP) with Other Federal Agencies and private industry.
• Understanding of the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) / DOE Non-NNSA programs and familiarity with proposal generation related to these programs.
• Experience with procurement planning and formal project management practices.
Location: This is a hybrid position that is located in Los Alamos, NM, with the ability for teleworking from a location within a 2-hour commute. In general, reporting onsite a minimum of 1 day a week is required. Telework availability is dependent upon management and customer needs and may change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
