Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for Director of Strategic Initiatives for Equity and Organizational Development (DEI ) This is a full-time, administrative position, which includes a full state benefits package.

The Director of Strategic Initiatives for Equity and Organizational Development reports directly to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services. The Director will work closely with employees of Yakima Valley College and the surrounding community to create positive change in the area of equity.
Essential Tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, organizational development, or related field, accompanied with related experience.
  • 2-3 years experience working in a higher education setting and/or direct experience designing or implementing equity practices in an organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s degree or higher
  • Direct experience with change management and shifting organizations for the purpose of equitable culture change
  • Well-developed skills in listening to and responding to people from diverse backgrounds across the institutional spectrum that includes students, faculty, staff, and community partners
  • Knowledge of grant procurement process

Qualifications
JOB PROFILE:

  • Reports directly to the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services.
  • Determines campus equity, diversity and inclusion needs by conducting ongoing needs assessments, focus groups, and analyzing trends and data.
  • Develops equity, diversity and inclusionary policies, procedures, and practices that meet recognized needs and are consistent with the College’s strategic plan.
  • Serves as the College lead in the development and expansion of relationships and initiatives aimed at recruiting, serving, and retaining under-represented student populations at the College.
  • Coordinates with college departments to develop and implement training for all faculty and staff to promote cultural competencies in support of a climate of equity and inclusion; and coordinates with Student Services to develop and implement training for all students.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to implement and maintain equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives related to recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Works with Office of Institutional Effectiveness to gather, research and analyze data to assess institutional climate in terms of equity and inclusion and to meet federal and state reporting requirements, including workforce analysis reports.
  • Serves as an integral member of the strategic planning team led by the YVC President.
  • As an integral member of the strategic planning team, will coordinate the activities between work groups.
  • Develops grant-seeking opportunities to create resources, programming, and initiatives that build the campus-wide capacity to promote diversity and an inclusive, supportive environment into our culture, practices, and procedures.
  • Presents analysis of legislation and regulations to the President’s leadership team and other student, faculty, and staff groups and community partners, related to equity and inclusion.
  • Provides progress reports to the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges regarding legislative priorities.
  • Promotes strategies for the success of under-represented students and partners with faculty and staff to develop specific programs fostering these strategies.
  • Develops working relationships with all populations in the College’s service area(s) to promote diversity and an inclusive, supportive environment at the College.
  • Engages individuals, cultural groups, civic organizations, and federal, state, tribal and local government leaders around issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Represents the College in regional and local associations, civic clubs, and boards of non-profit organizations to establish a network of community partnerships and support.
  • Serves as the liaison for students and employees who experience bias.
  • Understands and maintains compliance with state legislation on equity.
  • Keeps the College President apprised of progress on initiatives.
  • Serves as the college representative to the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges’ (SBCTC) Equity Council.
  • Provides progress reports to the State Board for Community and Technical College (SBCTC) regarding legislative priorities.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

State Employees can elect to become members of the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.
