POSITION: Custodian – Part Time
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The custodian will maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment in order to comply with all program standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) months custodial experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and able to be insured for vehicle operation under the current Insurance Plan preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds repeatedly for periods of at least 30 minutes, several times a day and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend and twist throughout a work day.
- Ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs multiple times a day while carrying heavy objects.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions plus count and sort items consistently and accurately.
- Ability to operate janitorial equipment.
- Willingness/ability to work as a team member and assist with other building needs.
- Good organizational skills.
- History of good job attendance.
- Must pass criminal background checks and be free from communicable disease.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To perform custodial duties as assigned.
- To sweep and mop or vacuum classrooms, dust furniture, and disinfect tables, chairs and countertop services daily.
- To clean corridors after school/work each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
- To scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors as needed, and clean all sanitary fixtures, garbage cans and drinking fountains as needed.
- To set up rooms per room requests.
- To deliver packages from the dock to the individual or department.
- To keep the grounds free from rubbish, keep walkways and entrances free from obstacles.
- To move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal or Operations Manager.
- To comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
- To check in and put away any supplies.
- To comply with all health, safety and sanitation regulations in custodial practices.
- To report the presence of unauthorized or atypical visitors.
- To confer with supervisors regarding progress, concerns and recommendations.
- To maintain records and files as required.
- To plan and organize own work to meet priorities.
- To meet deadlines (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly).
- To maintain confidentiality in district matters.
- To continuously update and improve professional competence.
- To comply with state and federal regulations that pertains to the position (e.g. OSHA, OCR).
- To perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the supervisor.
- To comply with all Head Start standards, Ohio Preschool Rules and Butler County ESC regulations, policies and procedures.
- To manage time well and follow procedures and work schedules accurately and consistently.
OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
- To serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- To help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to: Interpret policies and procedures, work successfully in a culturally diverse environment, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data, schedule, be physically fit and bend, twist, lift and carry moderate weight throughout the work day, walk up and down multiple levels of stairs multiple times daily, push, pull and operate heavy cleaning equipment. Work successfully in a culturally diverse environment.
- Skilled in: Operating and maintaining customary custodial equipment, basic math, English and communications.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Cleaning equipment, floor cleaning and polishing equipment and other customary custodial maintenance equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional: Exposure to dust, heavy equipment, loud noise, irritating and hazardous chemicals, unruly children/adults.
Frequent: Exposure to bodily fluids, tissue, fumes, travels to and gains access to worksite, cleaning and janitorial supplies and chemicals.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non – prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
STARTING DATE: As soon as possible
SALARY: $16.40 per hour
WORK YEAR: Part Time – up to 25 hrs per week during school year
