ESG Specialist- Remote

Purpose:

The ESG Specialist will provide support to the UNFI ESG & Social Impact team across several initiatives, including community engagement and associate volunteerism, charitable giving, and sustainable operations. The Specialist will serve as the primary point of contact for the Company’s network of volunteer champions, providing ongoing support and training to increase associate volunteerism. The Specialist will also provide critical support to the Foundation Manager throughout the grantmaking and impact reporting process, facilitating strong partnerships with our nonprofit partners.

Job Responsibilities:

Corporate Donations and Volunteering- 35%
• Support company “volunteer champions” including monthly convenings, fielding questions, presenting to teams/leadership on an ongoing basis.
• Spearhead an ongoing volunteer communication campaign, in close partnership with the Foundation Manager and Communications team.
• Provide regular data management and reporting to leadership on volunteerism progress.
• Provide insights and information on gaps to prioritize.
• Support the creation of a skills-based volunteering program.

UNFI Foundation Grantmaking Support- 35%
• Help to facilitate the annual UNFI Foundation grantmaking process, including grantee communications, review team support, and the development of SOPs.
• Leverage the grants management platform to streamline processes.
• Support the Foundation Manager in collection and compilation of impact reporting.

General Team Support – 30%
• Partner closely with Communications team to create content to increase the profile of ESG & Social impact activities throughout company communications, including regular posting to internal platforms.
• Develop and maintain team SharePoint site.
• Administer department budget, including management of financial requests and coordination of supportive documentation needed to process company donations.
• Vet donation requests from local giving/volunteer ambassadors.
• Provide direction to associates on qualifiers for donations.
• Support impact reporting needs, including the Company’s annual ESG report. Collect information from cross functional stakeholders and partners to compile formulate insights or identify gaps.

Job Requirements:

Education/ Certifications/or Equivalent combination of education training and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred Experience:
• 0-2 years’ experience in corporate sustainability, philanthropy or related role
• Passion for sustainability, social impact, and community development
