POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreation Leader 1 position works with the daily operations of the Mellon Tennis Facility, including but not limited to, scheduling court reservations for patrons, performing some cash transactions and cleaning the facility. The Recreation Leader 1 works collaboratively with the tennis pros and tennis players to ensure their needs are being met by addressing concerns/questions while at the Facility.
Department: Parks & Recreation.
Salary: $40,000 per year
Union: This position is included in the Recreation Teacher’s Union, Service Employees International Union, Local #668, meet and discuss unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.
Union Bid Form: None required.

Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience in business management, recreation programming or customer service. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis).
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show an Associate’s Degree from a fully accredited institution in Business Management, Social Service, Recreation, Community Recreation, Leisure Studies, Theater Arts or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
- EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or related work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is three (3) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

POSITION DUTIES
- Assists in the scheduling of court time by keeping accurate records of the daily court time, processing transactions for credit card payments when players pay for occasional court time, answering phone calls and inquiries about available court time.
- Maintains the facility conditions by keeping all areas of the Tennis Bubble and office clean by vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, changing floor mats, shoveling snow and raking leaves.
- Operates the sweeper and/or scrubber inside the Tennis Court to clean the courts.
- Keeps all areas clean by picking up tennis balls, changing water coolers, restocking cups and emptying trash bins.
- Restocks tennis carts by exchanging old tennis balls for new ones.
- Resolves tennis pros and patrons concerns and complaints regarding facility conditions, use of the courts.
- Reports all accidental injuries occurring at the facility in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides a safe and secure environment for youth and adult members and enforces the Citiparks Tennis Facility rules to ensure member safety.
- May direct the work of part time staff as assigned.
- Participates in professional development and training programs, including but not limited to: CPR, AED and First Aid.
- Ensures that duties are performed in accordance with established City, County, state and/or federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Submits requisitions needed for equipment needs and reports property damage and/or maintenance problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Administers cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid to victims in distress as needed.
- Assists in the maintenance and development of the tennis program and scheduling/permit calendar. Assists in the handling and logging of program revenues and expenditures as needed.
- Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes and controls the materials, equipment and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.
- Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policy including union agreements to ensure fair and standardized treatment of employees.
- Performs activities and functions of lower level personnel as needed and performs related tasks and duties as requested.
- Works weekends, evenings and holidays, as required.
