This position is based in Santa Paula, California.
Objective: Will perform financial accounting duties for Calavo corporate accounting. Activities include preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, maintaining lease schedules and database and assist in the reporting process. The Senior Staff Accountant reports to and works very closely with the Director of Accounting and other members of the corporate finance and accounting teams for all financial reporting and compliance. The job will be hybrid with, in office days in the corporate Santa Paula office location.
Essential Job Functions: The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare journal entries in support of the month-end closing process.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and bank accounts on a monthly basis.
- Maintain the companywide lease database and ensure lease expenses are recorded per GAAP
- File local tax returns and renew licenses to ensure the company is in compliance with local authorities.
- Provide information to internal and external auditors for periodic testing.
- Assist with maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) narratives.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual business plan by the Corporate FP&A group.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
- Ensure all work is adequately documented and supported.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration from an accredited college of university; CPA certification desired.
- Three+ years public accounting training a plus and/or strong accounting skills including a minimum five years experience with similar responsibilities in a corporate environment.
- Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, income tax and banking knowledge.
- Excellent computer skills, in-depth knowledge of accounting software and MS Excel.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills to resolve problems by gathering and analyzing information skillfully in a timely manner.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Possess excellent sound and accurate judgment; displays willingness to make decisions.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.

Compensation:
- The base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $91,200 – $136,700.
- The actual salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience.
