Job Summary

The Environmental Graphic Designer works closely with a variety of University stakeholders and end users to conceptualize, prepare, design, and fabricate a variety of two and three dimensional graphics, maps, and signs for a variety of purposes: wayfinding, building identification, donor recognition, school spirit, banners, etc. The Environmental Graphic Designer serves as the project manager responsible for the schedule, budget, and vendor management of environmental graphic design projects. This position advises in-house construction project management staff on the environmental graphics associated with non-capital and capital projects.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBIILITIES –

1. Responsible for developing (in partnership with University stakeholders) a campus-wide standard and specifications for environmental graphics and building signage.

2. Works with clients requesting signage by developing ideas/concepts/designs/mockups while ensuring consistency with overall environmental, visual and aesthetic plans for the University.

3. Procures and oversees the installation of a variety of two and three dimensional signs that identify, direct, inform, interpret and visually enhance the campus environment.

4. Review project floor plans to determine the most effective placement of signage.

5. Conducts construction drawing reviews to ensure consistency with overall plans and optimal use of design elements to achieve objectives.

6. Performs other duties assigned.

7. Maintains ongoing awareness of graphic design industry trends and developments

8. Contracts with Environmental Graphic Design Consultants and signage vendors and reviews design documents and submittals to verify compliance with KSU Signage Standard Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in graphic or visual communication, interior design, industrial design, architecture from an accredited institution of higher education in related field

Other Required Qualifications
Knowledge of ADA and code requirements for environmental graphics

Required Experience
At least five (5) years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience with small fabrications and installations

Preferred Experience
Experience in higher education

Proposed Salary

The budgeted salary range is $58,000 to $82,000. Offers are based on relevant experience.

SKILLS
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office suite)
Project management, organization, and communications skills
Quality assurance of all finished print media and completed signage
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
