Senior GIS Technical Specialist, World Wide Real Estate Technology

World Wide Real Estate Technologies invents software solutions to optimize Amazon’s commercial real estate portfolio. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior GIS Technical Specialist to join our team in the commercial real estate industry. You will work at a global scale to solve real-world challenges that will transform Amazon’s approach to Industrial Real Estate in ways we can’t even image yet. In this role, you will work collaboratively with business partners, engineers, product managers, and executives to drive and enable Geographic Information system (GIS) solutions across our existing and future portfolio of application. You will design cutting-edge technology solutions in workflow automation, geospatial intelligence and mapping, and artificial intelligence to revolutionize the way our stakeholders conduct business.

Key job responsibilities

  • Drive the forward looking design, architecture and implementation of GIS applications and analytics
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and integration of GIS technologies, platforms, and tools to support business needs and objectives
  • Define and maintain GIS architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency, scalability, and maintainability of GIS systems and applications
  • Work with vendors and contractors to procure GIS-related services and products as needed
  • Stay at the forefront of GIS trends, technologies, and best practices, and apply that knowledge to improve internal GIS product solutions
  • Develop and deliver GIS training and support materials to help users understand and utilize GIS tools and data effectively
  • Manage GIS system performance, capacity, and availability by identifying and resolving issues

About the team

WWRE Tech manages software tools to centralize data about what buildings Amazon launches. Since inception, these tools have grown to encompass Amazon’s worldwide operations (outside physical stores): we now cover thousands of active new launches, retrofit, and lease-related projects. We create global standards for managing data related to these capital projects.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS, or a related field5+ years of experience in GIS system architecture, design, development, and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of GIS technologies, platforms, and tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, MapServer, GeoServer, PostGISExperience in defining and maintaining GIS architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices
  • Experience in leading the evaluation, selection, and integration of GIS technologies, platforms, and tools
  • Strong knowledge of GIS data models, schemas, and metadata standards
  • Experience in developing and implementing security and access control policies for GIS systems and applications
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
  • Experience defining KPI’s/SLA’s used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
  • Advance degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS, or a related field
  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise Administration
  • ArcGIS Portal, Server and Datastore
  • Experienced on administering ArcGIS on AWS Infrastructure
  • Proficiency ESRI ArcPy package
  • Experience in Enterprise Geodatabase Management, ArcGIS Dashboards, Survey123 and other ESRI Apps

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
