Job Description
Johnson County Mental Health is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN). The Mental Health Nurse provides direct psychiatric services to inmates in a correctional setting. The schedule will start as Monday – Friday: 8am – 5pm and will include rotating weekends and holidays. This position will remain open until filled. Other responsibilities include:
- Provides comprehensive nursing services; assesses the holistic needs of individuals by incorporating family and environmental factors; collects and documents inmate health history; measures and records vital signs; completes health assessments and performs limited exams; obtains, processes, and handles lab specimens; manages, controls and implements medication administration programs; performs minor procedures and treatments within designated area of specialty.
- Completes and submits documentation regarding inmate care and condition; reviews quality and effectiveness of services provided and documented by other service providers.
- Provides inmates with supportive resources; educates patients in areas impacting health, wellness, and daily living activities; develops and provides specialized health training and education to staff.
- Provides case management, care coordination, referral and follow-up to inmates; evaluates outcomes, effectiveness of plans, and makes changes as necessary.
Job Requirements
Successful completion of education program in Nursing that meets the requirements for the Registered Nurse license; licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas; valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
One year of nursing experience is preferred, though recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
