Hourly salary range is $21.63 to $48.07, with a midpoint of $31.25. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under general direction, the temporary Community Engagement Coordinator supports the work of the System Engagement team within the Communications, Marketing and Engagement (CME) Department. Supports a variety of established programs and coordinates discrete projects as assigned by the Systems and Equitable Engagement Manager. Assists with planning and executing agency outreach events, including recruiting and training employees as needed. Provides logistical and technical support services for systems, safety, operating and equitable outreach programs, including issue tracking, record-keeping, reporting, research and analysis to help ensure efficient functioning of the division. Helps plan and staff Systems Engagement appearances at a variety of outreach events, interacting with the general public and answering questions about Sound Transit services. This is a temporary position, expected to continue for up to twelve months, after which will be a review for a possible extension.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Systems Engagement support:
- Supports system engagement team while developing outreach skills. Assists Engagement Specialists and Engagement Program Managers in coordinating and executing public involvement and communications plans for a wide variety of customer-facing projects, including service planning and fare change proposals, bi-annual Service Changes, safety engagement, youth engagement, operations engagement and new service launches. Assigned tasks would include managing milestones and deadlines, managing translation requests, developing and updating outreach materials and surveys, and drafting engagement reports.
- Assists team with meeting equitable engagement goals, including tracking and executing Language Access best practices, in order to better engage with hard-to-reach audiences; manages translation and interpretation service requests as needed; facilitates in-language document review/quality checks.
- Builds public surveys using agency’s survey tool, including translated content; pulls survey data/runs survey reports as needed.
- Tracks and gathers analytics as needed; collects and analyzes stakeholder feedback from surveys and outreach events; drafts engagement reports and summaries.
- Drafts and updates basic public-facing customer outreach materials, such as fact sheets and web content, coordinating the internal review of materials as needed.
- Develops, tracks and distributes rider information materials such as passenger notices, social media assets and temporary signage as assigned.
- Provides logistical support for customer outreach appearances: oversees production of materials, organizes and packs materials and equipment; staffs events as needed, including Commute Trip Reduction events, safety events, youth focused events, fairs and festivals, farmers markets and community events; sets up and tears down outreach booths; manages booth space, activities and informational displays; interacts with the general public, answering service-related questions.
- Serves as primary point of contact for smaller projects; prepares materials, contacts stakeholders, responds to concerns, and communicates progress to staff.
General support:
- Supports team’s use of key internal-facing platforms, including CRM and MS Teams; performs data entry and manages tracking mechanisms for various team functions; acts as technical expert and helps train users as needed.
- Helps manage team inventory of fact sheets, brochures and promotional items.
- Schedules and attends planning meetings as assigned: prepares agendas, takes notes, prepares meeting minutes, tracks action items; manages any assigned tasks.
- Provides project coordination services to the team as assigned: leads meetings, executes on communications plans, monitors deadlines and milestones, routes deliverables for approval, ensures quality and provides reports.
- Contributes to culture of Continuous Process Improvement, working with division staff to identify areas of improvement and implement best practices.
- Champions and models Sound Transit’s core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.
- Contributes to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in alignment with Sound Transit’s Equity & Inclusion Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Associate’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, environmental studies, business or public administration, English or closely related field and two years of experience in coordinating public relations programs/public outreach programs, project management and/or content management in assigned functional area, including volunteer management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.

- Working effectively under pressure, managing multiple assignments and tasks, meeting deadlines, setting objectives/goals, and re-prioritizing as needed
- Effectively representing Agency programs in contacts with the public, businesses, community organizations and other government agencies.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills in:
- Knowledge of collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams a plus
- Knowledge of Office 365 / Share Point a plus
- Knowledge of volunteer management software a plus
- Fluency in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, Tagalog or Chinese is a plus.
