Akamai Legal is a highly-experienced global team of professionals dedicated to advancing Akamai’s business interests and next phase of growth, while simultaneously protecting its assets and reputation. Partner with the best
You will work closely with our Human Resources (HR) teams to provide employment law advice and support to the Company, and become a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders across the business.
As Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment you will be responsible for:
- Counseling HR professionals and business leaders on all aspects of employment, labor and related legal issues.
- Advising on employment-related Federal, state and local statutes and regulations.
- Investigating and defending employment-related claims and supporting training for Company employees regarding employment law matters.
- Educating HR professionals to mitigate risk on key HR responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing and advising HR regarding the creation and operation of best in class policies and practices.
- Building effective working relationships and interfacing closely with Akamai’s HR department, and with external employment counsel.
- Supporting employment-related litigation.
- Providing other legal assistance as needed to Legal team or business leaders on employment/labor/other issues.
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A minimum of 10 years experience as an employment attorney with both law firm and in-house experience, and relevant experience advising on employment law matters.
- JD from an accredited law school, be admitted to practice in a relevant jurisdiction, and be in good standing.
- Strong background in advising clients and business leaders on local employment law issues.
- Sound business judgment, robust time management skills, the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously, solid risk management and assessment, and the ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.
- Experience with Internet technology and related legal issues will be helpful but not essential.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and written/verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, proactively, remotely, and with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work with colleagues and internal clients located across the US, Canada, and Latin America

Compensation
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary for this position ranges from $149,122 – $239,744/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
