Program Coordinator – Education, Defense & Justice for Youth (EDJY)

The Organization

East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) is excited to recruit a Program Coordinator for its Education, Defense, and Justice for Youth (EDJY) program. The EDJY program provides holistic legal and social work services to young people ensnared at the intersection of the juvenile legal and education systems. The EDJY program is the umbrella program for two clinics: the Youth Defender Clinic and the Education Justice Clinic. These clinics work together closely to confront the criminalization of youth of color to ensure they are able to remain in their communities and get the education they are entitled to and deserve. EDJY staff provides representation in juvenile court (delinquency proceedings), school discipline, special education, and juvenile record sealing cases. EDJY staff also train law students and engage in community-driven policy reform.

The Opportunity

EBCLC is looking for a Program Coordinator who is a self-starter with a passion for racial justice to support EDJY staff, clients, students, and community partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate EDJY’s intake line providing callers with advice, referrals, self-help materials, and other limited-scope assistance.
  • Compile and maintain a database of community resources and organizations.
  • Provide administrative support to EDJY including database and file management.
  • Support the operation of EDJY’s law student clinical program.
  • Provide translation assistance and interpret for client meetings and interviews as needed.
  • Depending on available opportunities, develop and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations, including engaging in policy advocacy, and coordinate outreach activities, including legal workshops.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Spanish language fluency required
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial justice
  • Ability to work with young people and families who have experienced or are currently experiencing trauma in an empathetic and professional manner
  • Excellent time-management, priority-setting, and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to pick up new computer skills quickly
  • Experience working with youth and families preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse range of groups, such as youth, people of color, immigrants, non-English speakers, people with disabilities, law students, service providers, government employees, community partners, elected officials, and law school faculty

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary for this non-exempt position is $53,000 – $63,000 based on a number of years of relevant experience, as dictated by the EBCLC salary scale.
