The Opportunity

The Senior Career Controls/Electrical Design Engineer position is within the Stearns Roger Services organization in the Installed Base Outage Services Business Unit, which is responsible for designing and upgrading nuclear reactor refueling equipment to commercial nuclear reactors. This opportunity is located in Lynchburg, Virginia.

What You’ll Do at Framatome

You will be responsible for leading the design of control systems and/or electrical equipment for Nuclear Power Plant Refueling Equipment. Typical assignments include:

  • Defining requirements for equipment and functionality
  • Designing controls or electrical power supply systems to meet requirements
  • Assist with creating or review control system and electrical design drawings
  • Facilitating procurement of parts and components
  • Assembly, testing and overseeing installation of components on the equipment
  • Typical equipment includes PLC control systems, Variable Frequency Drive, Motors, Human Machine Interfaces with touchscreens, power supply systems, transformers, industrial PCs, electric brakes, etc.

Travel: Occasional/sporadic. Domestic travel is, at times, required. Foreign travel may, at times, be required.

Required Experience

Your Skills and Knowledge

  • You must have skills in automated control system design
  • You have experience leading small to mid-size design projects and teams
  • You must be interested in understanding how machines work and how to design them so they are functional, simple to use and service
  • You have the ability to communicate clearly and precisely in oral, written, and presentation formats
  • You are experienced in reading and understanding electrical drawings
  • You are good at system troubleshooting / or have field experience

What You’ve Accomplished

You have completed a BS degree in Electrical, Controls, or Computer Engineering. You may have also obtained an advanced degree in similar fields. You have worked in a Electrical or Controls Engineering role for at least 7 years and are ready to join Framatome and help deliver clean, safe energy and advance nuclear technology.

Your Other Potential Skills and Knowledge (not required)

  • You may have real-time controls programming experience
  • You may have PLC design experience; both system design and PLC/HMI programming
  • It is beneficial is you have programming experience; VB, C++/C#
  • You understand motion controllers / drive tuning
  • You understand networking
  • You are familiar with integration of software to control systems (analog and digital) for mechanical and electrical components
  • You have experience with designing electrical power systems
  • You have experience leading mid-to-large size design projects

Our total rewards package

The range of base salary for the position is between $106,000 – $143,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
