Description
Purpose:
Provide front line supervision, scheduling, day-to-day operations management and work assignments to the appropriate craftsmen. Assure that the operational needs of the hospital are met and sustained within the specific guidelines of governing authorities.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the overall management function of the department, including recommending and conducting discipline when appropriate using UPMC and department procedures and practices, composing and administering job evaluations, performing timely periodic performance evaluations of subordinates, and recommending merit wage increases. Ensure timely completion of reports and documentation of incidents and regulatory records. Compile job and project cost estimates and contribute to budget processes.
- Monitor operations and assure department activity quantifies operational costs. Analyze available data and adjust actions and systems to gain maximum efficiency without compromise to facility operations. Maintain a parts inventory and order materials and equipment using proper procedures and processes that provide for the efficient and effective operation of the department.
- Assure that facility needs are met, and efficient operation of the facility is not compromised. Provide direction to craftsmen in the routine and non-routine execution of their duties, following all infection control procedures and monitoring technical issues that provide for safety and without compromise to facilities operations and patient care while ensuring that work standards are maintained at or above department standards.
- Maintain scheduling needs for all manpower in craft areas in area of responsibility to accommodate the needs and operations of the facility. Conduct periodic field inspection of appropriate building systems to assure that the specific needs of the facility are met.
- Maintain a working knowledge of appropriate codes and regulations. Ensure that all subordinates are properly trained in job skills and safety procedures by planning and scheduling specific training as necessary.
- May be required to work variable shifts and travel to other UPMC locations as needed.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized technical training course that reflects the function and skill of the appropriate crafts or team function being supervised.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working at a journeyman level or higher in an appropriate trade preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Demonstrative ability and knowledge in specific operational systems and functions.
- Possession of appropriate license or registration to meet code requirements.
- Ability to analyze conflicting data assesses information in context and make decisions that are appropriate and effective.
