This position is based out of Feeding America’s office location in the heart of downtown Chicago. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.
The Opportunity
The Vice President, Financial Planning is responsible for leadership of the budgeting, financial reporting and revenue forecasting functions of Feeding America. Leads team to work directly with leaders of all functional teams to assist in reporting, forecasting and analyzing financial and operational results, as well as conducting analyses to support better decisions. Oversees the organization’s accounting practices related to restricted contributions. Generates and reviews the development of the annual valuation of donated goods and services.

The salary range listed below represents the starting to mid-point salaries for positions and comparable roles at this level at our organization and candidates should expect to be offered a salary near the starting point of the range that is listed on the job posting. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.
Salary Range: $138,000 to $175,000+ Based on Experience Responsibilities:
- Lead the Annual Financial Planning Process, working with senior management and senior leadership to develop revenue and expense budgets.
- Develops reports and analysis to monitor organization-wide financial results including budget/forecast versus actual monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Performs significant review of both internal and external financial statements.
- Create internal & external executive reporting documents including materials for the Board, Audit Committee and Executive Management presentations
- Works directly with the fundraising leadership to develop and monitor fundraising forecasts and pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on major initiatives from the financial perspective, including but not limited to, business model evaluation, cost saving opportunities, vendor selection & negotiation and operational efficiency.
- Support the CFO in engaging the Board’s Stewardship Committee.
- Prepares annual and multi-year financial budgets, resource allocation models, projections and trend analysis.
- Manage and track the performance of long-term investments and ensure maintaining compliance with policies and investment guideline. Annually review investment policy and develop investment scenarios (e.g., development board designated reserves) for consideration, as appropriate.
- Oversees the set-up, maintenance, review and analysis of restricted accounts and ensures that restricted funds are used in accordance with donors’ designation and Feeding America’s organization needs.
- Oversees the generation and analysis of National Office and Network valuation of donated valuation of goods.
- Partner with senior leadership teams throughout the organization to provide value-added analyses and business insights. Key stakeholder in solicitation management process and incremental resource request process.
- Hires, develops, and supervises staff. Directs the daily activities and the career development of team members.
- Coordinates administration of financial and planning systems with the technology team.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Ten or more years of related experience in Accounting or Finance with five years non-profit experience.
- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Excellent financial modeling experience and exceptional analytical skills.
- Track record of approaching management with original and creative views on how to improve the organization using data driven analysis.
- Experience developing staff and mentoring finance associates across the organization.
