Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

About the Job:

As the Training Director, you will be responsible for acting as training and education consultant for a state agency and its subdivisions or associated agencies throughout the state. You will develop and monitor comprehensive training programs, policies and procedures. In this position you will provide direction to the pre-service academies, in-service supervisory/managerial and special issues programs, trainer development workshops, and safety/security skills certification programs.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Direct the planning, coordination, development, performance and evaluation of training programs, including research, design, develop and execute strategies to achieve agency purpose, goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with department heads and contract providers to develop job specific/classification specific training for their region.
  • Review ongoing curriculum to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Research textbooks, audiovisual aids and related educational materials for possible incorporation into curriculum.
  • Act as consultant, subject matter expert training resource, and legal expert witness regarding all training related matters.
  • Develop and conducts educational conferences and in-service training for statewide training staff.
  • Evaluate proposed and existing staff training content and delivery strategies to ensure current policies, procedures, standards, and best practices are incorporated.
  • Supervise subordinates in the delivery of their duties, performance evaluation, training, and offer professional growth opportunities.
  • Develop, and evaluates on-the-job training programs by collaborating and coordinating with universities, training vendors, external allied criminal justice and health service agencies to improve curricula development and enhance training opportunities for staff.
  • Act as liaison with the vendors to determine adequacy and appropriateness of service delivery
  • Develop, submit and manage the supporting facilities training budgets.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
  • Coordinate educational programs with other agencies for possible certification or accreditation.

What You’ll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferred degree fields include education, criminal justice, criminology, psychology, or human resources.
  • Seven (7) years’ experiences in education; in-service training. A combination of experience and accredited college training may be considered. (Concentration in a Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Education, Personnel Management, Public Administration, Social Work, or related area preferred.)
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of a broad area of training and education including texts and materials developed in the field.
  • Thorough knowledge of the agency’s or institution’s functions, operations and purpose.
  • Considerable knowledge of experiential learning techniques.
  • Practical knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing mandated training within agency
  • Ability to develop, monitor and evaluate broad training program.
  • Ability to plan and conduct seminars, workshops and training sessions.
  • Ability to assemble training materials including writing comprehensive manuals and assembling texts, films, slides and characters.
  • Ability to establish effective and cooperative working relationships with trainees, other instructors and entire agency staff.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to keep current on new trends, philosophies and available materials regarding adult education.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports; however, supervision may be assigned based on agency needs.
