Supervisor, Strategic Communications (Hybrid)

PURPOSE:
The Supervisor, Strategic Communications assists with the development of communication strategy and supporting communication plans that produce effective and precisely crafted messages, using a variety of communication channels, to reach and influence stakeholders. Aids the manager in the creative development of all related communication collateral and outputs. Supervises the communications team to implement communication strategy and underlying plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Strategically advance the effectiveness of various communications vehicles in delivering and reinforcing company messages. Work with leadership to develop a comprehensive communications roadmap for divisional priorities and develop subsequent communications plans to implement communications. Act as advocate for the brand style guide and help ensure consistencies in writing and design. Actively participate in brainstorming sessions to generate ideas. Use various communication channels and determine how to best to communicate through each channel (email, print, etc.). Develop ways to evaluate effectiveness of all communications with metrics and reporting to management. Keep abreast of communication trends and best practices. Actively engage and partner across the organization on corporate-wide initiatives and priorities.
  • Supervise communications team to ensure consistent processes and procedures to prioritize and create effective and efficient communications. Provide clear direction as well as timely and helpful feedback to improve marketing communications projects. Mentor direct reports balancing personal growth goals with the needs of the team/company. Cultivate strong partnerships with management and leadership among the Marketing department and corporate wide.
  • Lead all project management work including campaigns, individual projects and day-to-day production requests. Partner with relevant business areas and customers to determine goals and schedules; strategize and implement project plans and ensure flawless execution. Develop comprehensive schedules for program duration, set interim milestone meetings. Clearly and actively communicate requirements, deliverables, timelines and budget status throughout communications lifecycle. Acts as liaison across multiple areas to ensure effective and efficient goals, scope, progress and completion of projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position manages 1-5 people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or related field or in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Experience: 3 years progressive strategic communications experience, conference, event planning, event marketing or production experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • A proven track record for superb written and oral communications; excellent proofreading and editing skills, and a passion for creating engaging and relevant web and print content.
  • A proven ability to write with varying tone and the ability to translate technical and industry jargon into copy that is of interest to the reader.
  • A keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously; sometimes under pressure and often tight deadlines.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships across departments and an understanding of client needs, the consumer experience, marketing strategy and operational capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and be able to manage multiple projects with time sensitive deadlines.
  • An understanding of graphic design, print production and electronic communications.
  • Exceptional oral and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet targeted deadlines.

Travel Requirements:
Estimate Amount: 5% Travel to company sponsored events and meetings in the Baltimore-Washington region; travel to event locations within the U.S.

Salary Range: $70,632 – $145,679
