Juniper Threat Labs Detection Team is the security research and development arm of Juniper Networks, focused on analyzing new cyber threats and developing innovative solutions to block them. Our mission is to stay one step a head of all threat actors and build threat intelligence and product capabilities that can thwart advanced persistent threats to our customers’ networks.
JTL Dection Team is looking for a strong candidate for a lead technical role contributing to the architecture, design and development efforts of solutions based on threat research and devising novel detection methods for Juniper’s security products.
The qualified candidate is responsible for delivering production grade quality solutions by following software development best practices and engineering methodologies. The engineer should be well versed with malware analysis, machine learning frameworks, networking technologies, virtualization technologies, and possess strong programming skills. You will be working on Juniper Advanced Threat Prevention Cloud and associated existing and future cloud delivered solutions.
This role will require you to work independently, manage multiple priorities, be a team player and excellent problem solver.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement next generation network security products.
- Build End-to-End software architecture of newer systems and components.
- Apply advanced knowledge of data extraction/processing and develop complex modeling features.
- Build innovative Machine Learning models and algorithmic solutions to detect emerging threats.
- Work with the Research team and the Engineering team to assess and enhance Juniper’s malicious attack detection capabilities.
- Build proof of concept projects and implement mockup frameworks to evaluate new threat detections methods.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to bring into the platform.
- Analyze malware behavior throughout the kill chain.
- Utilize various analysis tools to unpack, decrypt, safely detonate, capture communication of suspicious binaries and documents.
- Analyze reports of false positive and false negative detections and take or recommend appropriate remediation actions.
- Build tools to automate daily activities.
- Lead efforts in working closely with accredited third party Cyber Security testing labs to evaluate Juniper Security Solutions in terms of Efficacy and Performance.
- Document architectures, procedures, and processes in use and contribute to the improvement of the process.
- Interface with some industry partners around threat intelligence.
- Lead and mentor other specialists in the team.
- Contribute on white papers / patents / IETFs on related technical areas.
Tools & Technical Skills:
- Understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols such as HTTP, SSL, IPSec, and VXLAN.
- Automation programming skills in building networks, virtualization, and containerization.
- Proven track record and proficiency in Python and UNIX.
- Proficiency in data serialization formats like YAML and JSON.
- Experience with AWS and cloud based technologies.
- Experience with Structured Query Language.
- Experience with ML framworks such as Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, etc.
- Experience using network security attack and prevention tools ( Wireshark, Metasploit, Snort).
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in Cyber Security Industry.
- BS or BSE in computer science/engineering, data science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in Malware detection technologies, such as sandboxing, deception, and static analysis.
- Hand-on expertise with machine learning model deployment and cloud infrastructure.
- Understanding of networking and core Internet protocols.
- Expertise in either Windows or MacOS malware analysis.
- Strong programming background preferably in distributed systems. Ability to write custom data structures and algorithms.
- Strong experience in Linux based systems.
- Proven track record to work collaboratively with teams and influence their technological direction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Go programming language.
- Experience with Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Experience with Kubernetes lifecycle management.
- Background in REST, GRPC and Protocol Buffers.
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Reverse engineering complex botnets and APTs.
- Experience using Reverse Engineering tools (IDA pro, Windbg, ollydbg).

Minimum Salary: $178,560.00
Maximum Salary:$256,680.00
The pay range for this position is expected to be between $178,560.00 and $256,680.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Juniper’s pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
