Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking an IT Project Manager to plan and develop projects for the Information Technology Services Division of the Prince George’s County, Department of Parks and Recreation. The division is responsible for providing an innovative, reliable, and secure technology services. This position is responsible for ensuring that the projects that feed those services are properly planned, monitored, and delivered within budget. The position will initiate and plan projects at inception, execute the business activities related to the plan, monitor and report throughout the project and drive projects to completion with thorough evaluation and documentation. The project compliment is wide ranging. Projects include software adoption, system upgrades, hardware replacement, automation campaigns and other similar technology initiatives. This role will help the division take ideas and vision and move them to execution and delivery.
Examples of Important Duties
- Under direction of the Information Technology Division Chief, plan and develop project ideas. This will include conducting research, producing written project requirements, establishing charters and setting expectations.
- Creating project plans (schedules, budgets, scoping documents, communication strategies, risk mitigation, etc.)
- Executing project defined activities, such as conducting meetings, providing status reports, procurement of project supplies, managing timelines, scope and budget, analyzing results, etc.
- The measuring, monitoring and controlling of projects through their lifecycle will be duties. This will include consistent project evaluation, applying problem solving skills when issues arise and timely communication to stakeholders.
- Performance evaluation for all projects will be an expected duty. These tasks include “lessons learned” meetings, detailed written project documentation, getting project results approved by stakeholders and close out reporting to project sponsors.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience managing and leading IT specific projects
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project
- Past leadership or supervisory experience
- Experience in public sector
- Strong writing skills and oral presentation ability.
- Project Management certifications. (i.e. PMP, CAPM, ACP, SCRUM, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or any related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in applications support and development.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total eight (8) years.
- Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.
Retirement Programs

Sick Leave Bank (Contribution and Benefit hours prorated for part-time employees)
- Employees have 60 days from date of hire to enroll.

- Annually covers up to 688 hours for own serious medical condition, and 480 hours for parental responsibilities (birthadoption or foster care), and 80-160 hours for serious medical condition of an immediate family member
