This position is responsible for providing legal, administrative, and clerical support to the attorneys, hearing representatives, and other staff within the legal department. Job responsibilities:
- Provide legal, administrative, and clerical support to the attorneys, hearing representatives, and other staff within the litigation department including:
- Executing proofs of service and subpoenas,
- Conducting legal research as requested,
- General office duties include calendaring, typing, telephone, filing, processing, and routing mail, making travel arrangements, processing expense accounts, transcribing dictation (infrequently),
- Act as a liaison between the legal and claims departments, outside counsel, panel law firms, and opposing law firms in obtaining information and facilitating information flow.
- Successfully complete the annual corporate Code of Conduct Training, and demonstrate full knowledge, understanding, and compliance with the Code.
Qualification/Competencies:
- Paralegal/legal assistant certification preferred.
- Knowledge of Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) practices and procedures is strongly desired.
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation legal terminology and phraseology is strongly desired.
- Ability to prepare documents and effective correspondence on legal matters.
- Ability to maintain various records and reports; detailed, accurate calendaring, and tracking of court dates, and ticklers.
- Ability to arrange and reschedule needed many appointments, including medical examinations and depos.
- Computer skills and knowledge of relevant software, preferably including the WCAB Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS).
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to, with reasonable accommodation: sit for extended periods of time; manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities; view and input data on a PC for extended periods of time; have effective verbal and written communication skills; stand, stoop, lift, carry and walk on, at least, an intermittent basis.
- Paralegal/legal assistant certification preferred.
- Prior legal administrative experience is preferred.
- Prior experience in workers’ compensation is strongly desired.
Salary Range:
- $50,000.00 – $59,000.00 annually
- Compensation may vary dependent on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
- In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
