Position Overview
This position, Information Technology/Communication Systems Specialist II, serves as project specialist for Department of Corrections (DOC) telecommunications. In this role you will analyze, recommend enhancements, or alterations to provide more efficient equipment/service and reduce costs to the agency. This position works with vendors, agency heads, and Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) provisioning unit to control, direct and monitor the processing of non-routine and moderately complex service requests for the service and support of voice, video, data and wireless services and equipment. Job Responsibilities
- Serves as project specialist for Department of Corrections (DOC) telecommunications.
- Maintains documentation on project requests.
- As project specialist, participates in developing, discussing, and implementing vendor contracts.
- Diagnoses problem source and coordinates with internal organizational support and operations groups and/or with vendors to identify cause and implement appropriate corrections to resolve issues related to project installations and/or chronic incidents.
- Serving as a specialist, staff will participate in the development of methods and procedures and training programs to improve skill levels of staff associated with the DoIT products, services, and processes.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with major coursework in electronic engineering, radio/television, telecommunications, or data processing.
- Requires four (4) years of professional experience in communications systems designs.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in the coordination, installation, repair of telecommunications systems, or information technology, or data network related experience.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience analyzing, recommending enhancements, and/or alterations to telecom equipment.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience researching, recommending, and providing ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accommodations relating to telecommunications services, equipment.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience as a technical/contractual consultant for procurement.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with Telecom/IT vendors on service requests.
- Prefers at least two (2) courses in Management Information Systems.
- Prefers experience working in a corrections environment.
- Prefers written and verbal communication skills.
- Prefers interpersonal skills when working with customers, employees, and management.
- Prefers team building skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.
