Description
Harmony Hall Arts Center is seeking an Assistant Technical Director. We are looking for a team player and a self-starter who can work 30 hours a week with most of the hours devoted to weekly pre-production and production tasks.

This position pays between $23.00-$25.00 per hour based on experience.

Goals

  • Work with Technical Director to develop updated Standard Operating Procedures
  • Complete training on the lighting and audio consoles

Examples of Important Duties
Production:

  • Working with the Technical Director to advance and prepare for all upcoming events at the Harmony Hall Art Center.
  • Assisting with the technical run of events and supervision of on-call part-time technical staff.
  • Preparing all equipment needed for an event at least 24 hours before the setup of the event.
  • During load-ins/loadouts, serving as support for part-time crew, anticipating needs for equipment they may need next in the process and having it ready.
  • Following up on every event strike and making sure equipment has been put away properly and in its assigned storage space and the stage has been swept and mopped.
  • Serving as primary projectionist for all movie events; working with part-time technicians to provide patrons with a positive viewing experience.
  • Serving as Manager on Duty at specified times for rehearsals, rentals, or other events
  • Demonstrating standard live performance industry safety practices; setting an example for all on-call part-time technical staff; including keeping off-topic conversations and distractions to a minimum from load-in to load out.

Inventory/Maintenance:

  • Maintaining the inventory and organization of the Backstage and Technical Storage Area
  • Assisting with general facility maintenance that falls within the scope of the Technical Director’s duties.
  • Regularly reporting on the progress of weekly tasks and special projects

Training:

  • Keeping up to date on the use of all lighting, audio, video, and rigging equipment

General Assistance:

  • Assisting the Assistant Manager/Technical Director with the updating of the Marquee and the Poster Boxes; distribution of Marketing materials and other materials for special programs
  • Assisting as needed with the Custodial staff on building improvement or building safety projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or four years of progressively responsible experience in theatre art or a related field from an accredited college or university; or,
  2. An equivalent combination of education and experience in theatre art or related field.

Intermediate knowledge of:

  • Theatre design, lighting, sound, set and prop construction, scene painting, rigging, and stage operations.
  • Theatre equipment.
  • Operation and maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Safety and health regulations.
  • Supervision.
  • Office practices.
  • General knowledge of production scheduling and management.

Ability to (1) solve problems by analytical methods; (2) read graphic blueprints; (3) keep records and prepare reports; (4) ability to communicate and deal tactfully and effectively with staff and public; (5) recruit, train, and supervise staff, volunteers, and interns.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:

  • Works in office, theatre, and gallery area. Works long hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Considerable pressure to meet deadlines.

This position does not provide any benefits.

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
