Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Civil and Mechanical Designer and Drafter with railroad infrastructure experience to support our Industrial Wastewater and Facilities Engineering team.

As a Civil and Mechanical Designer and Drafter, you will be proficient in preparing integrated and dynamic 3D models for industrial wastewater and facilities engineering infrastructure projects. Project examples may include demolition, rehabilitation, and/or new construction of industrial wastewater treatment plants, oil water separators, fixed fueling facilities, fuel tank storage farms, locomotive maintenance facilities, tank car loading / unloading facilities, and railroad utility infrastructure. Typical project activities include preparing project layouts, plant mechanical designs, grading and drainage designs; subsurface utility coordination and relocation; pavements, ground improvement measures, and slope stabilization systems; and erosion and sediment control measures. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you must be able to collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines to deliver fully integrated design models and construction drawing packages.

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing construction drawing packages including plan, profile, cross-section, and detail drawings in accordance with the United States National CAD Standard (NCS) or an international equivalent and preparing construction quantity takeoffs using model-based reports. Therefore, you must possess technical proficiency in at least one of the following civil design tools and the corresponding CAD platform with an interest in becoming proficient in AutoDesk® Civil 3D (AutoCAD).

Finally, this position plays an important role on our engineering teams to produce well-thought-out designs and quality drawing packages needed to control project construction and deliver critical solutions for our clients. With this in mind, you must possess an awareness of the interconnections of the systems being designed to help the team manage the effects of design development and impact of change.

Role accountabilities:

  • Develop engineering drawings, and models and prepare designs from general instruction and/or preliminary sketches, diagrams, or schematics
  • Coordinate with other discipline personnel and prepare/assemble project deliverables and submittals
  • Create diagrams, elevations, section-cuts, cross-sections, and schedules in AutoCAD from redlines provided by engineers
  • Manage models and/or CAD files in both BIM360 and ProjectWise environment
  • Work with project managers and engineers in coordinating the generation of accurate, presentable engineering drawings from redlines or other design schematics
  • Follow discipline-specific and company drafting standards
  • Interpret clients’ CAD standards and prepare templates, borders and formulate guidance for junior designers
  • Produce high-quality drawings on schedule and within budget
  • Maintain site record drawings

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience
  • 10 years of experience supporting heavy civil infrastructure projects

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Familiarity and experience with layout and design of industrial wastewater and stormwater treatment systems
  • Advanced proficiency in using AutoCAD/drafting software (Civil 3D, AutoCAD etc.)
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit
  • Familiarity with Bentley CAD programs such as MicroStation, Open Roads, etc.
  • Experience in 3D design, contouring, point clouds and GPS survey manipulation.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical drawings and quantity take-offs
  • Experience working collaboratively within BIM360, ProjectWise, and SharePoint
  • Understanding the life cycle of the project and managing your personal workload from start to finish

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field
  • 15 years of applicable experience
  • Rail industry experience
  • Site development, utility layout, and treatment plant design experience

The salary range for this position is $116000 – 200100 / year.
