Primary Objective: Responsible for the purchase of goods and services covering a variety of products and
commodities. Duties involve strategic sourcing thru competitive proposals and bids, and extensive interaction
and negotiation with suppliers in order to develop and maintain relationships and ensure best procurement
practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for development and utilization of measurable criteria for analysis of supplier selection process, thereby producing highly qualified suppliers meeting quality standards, cost effectiveness, and dependability of service and warranties for the Seattle Mariners organization.
  • Skillfully negotiates purchasing agreements with suppliers, covering pricing issues, quality of goods, services and warranties, and terms of agreement. Monitors adherence and compliance of all such agreements.
  • Tracks all shipments to ensure product arrives within the negotiated timeline.
  • Develops and implements problem solving methods to produce win/win partnerships and relationships, both internally and with outside suppliers.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with all levels of internal personnel and outside suppliers, both verbally and in writing, utilizing a pro-active approach.
  • Implements resourceful methods of sourcing a variety of commodities and services.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors a diverse vendor base, educating other Mariners’ departments on the MLB’s commitment to Diversity Initiatives, working closely with each to ensure success.
  • Responsible for vendor development and maintenance.
  • Independently develops, evaluates and awards bids for purchase of goods or services, consistent with the established policies of the department and the organization.
  • Initiates purchase orders, utilizing a computerized purchasing system.
  • Analyzes competitive bids. Initiates tracking, follow-up and expediting of orders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access and computerized purchasing systems, with emphasis on producing tracking reports and documentation on spreadsheets disseminated to internal departments.
  • Performance of highly developed organizational skills, with attentiveness to detail; adaptability to change; the ability to multi-task, and function well in a fast-paced environment of rapidly changing priorities. Must be a self-starter, work independently, while simultaneously functioning as a team player.
  • May be requested to perform job tasks not specifically related to primary assignment for the success of the business as requested by management.
  • May be requested to take the lead in project management if the need arises.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, facility management, or related field required. Equivalent, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education if approved by management.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Procurement/ Buying.

The anticipated range of base compensation for this role is $62,500 to $75,000 annually.
