The Role
The position is located in Fremont, CA. The Associate Fire Protection Engineer will work on multiple projects and facilities, primarily in the Fremont Area. This position provides a unique opportunity to be fully immersed with multi-discipline engineering teams, construction teams, operations teams, and production/manufacturing teams. In addition, this position provides the opportunity to make meaningful impact to Tesla key projects and programs.
The ideal candidate must have strong first principal mindset, the sense of ownership, determination to learn and try new things, capacity to adapt to a fast pace working environment, and the ability to frame problems and formulate innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Support Staff Fire Protection Engineer to develop building and fire code compliance documents and fire life safety designs for new facilities and retrofitting existing facilities
- Support Staff Fire Protection Engineer to perform hazardous material analysis for code compliances purposes, such as chemical classification, chemical quantity analysis, chemical inventory management, and related system design support.
- Support Staff Fire Protection Engineer to develop & create fire protection system design criteria for new production lines / materials and other improvements in the facility
- Review and comment on shop drawing design packages developed by contractors.
- Support Staff Fire Protection Engineer and other team members to develop AM&M (Alternate Means & Methods) to local AHJ to help with performance-based design criteria to meet intent of code
- Coordinate with various disciplines during the design process
- Support construction team to develop field solutions
- Perform field observations to ascertain existing conditions for future projects and infrastructure improvement.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should meet all following requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Civil Engineer or in similar related field
- Familiar with NFPA standards and model codes (e.g. ICC codes) related to building fire safety.
- Experiences with fire suppression system and fire detection/alarm system designs and inspection.
- Experiences with AutoCAD and Revit is a plus
- Experience in Construction Administration
- Strong communication skills to explain complex technical challenges and solutions clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work cross-functionally
- Ability to work well under pressure

$76,000 – $246,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
