The Commission functions as an administrative tribunal for individual appeals from disciplinary actions and appeals from decisions of the Commissioner of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services and acts as guardian of the City’s merit system. Under the direction of the General Counsel with latitude for independent judgment, the Agency Attorney Interne will assist in all aspects of the NYC employee appeals of disciplinary actions and candidate appeals of disqualification from employment. Tasks include but are not limited to: reviewing appeals and recommending further action, attending hearings, preparing hearing summaries, and drafting Commission decisions. Tasks may also include: conducting legal research as needed, drafting memoranda of law, reviewing parties’ motions, providing legal guidance during Commissioners’ deliberations, and assisting with all aspects of litigation in CPLR Article 78 proceedings in NYS Supreme Court.
This is a hybrid position, with a portion of the week in-office and a portion of the week remote (work-from-home).
Minimum Qual Requirements
Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
