POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Rochester invites applications for the position of:
AccessABLE Recreation Coordinator
Nature of Work
As a member of the Parks and Recreation department you would be responsible for the City of Rochester’s AccessABLE Recreation program that provides recreational activities enriching the social experiences and development of persons with intellectual disabilities. Current recreation activities including bowling, dances, holiday events/celebrations, game & craft nights, gym/health/fitness programs, music classes, Miracle Field League (softball/t-ball), swim lessons (and other aquatic activities), plus more.
This position is responsible for formulating, managing, and administering recreational programming for community members with cognitive and developmental disabilities of all ages. Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor the AccessABLE Recreation Coordinator monitors programs, communicates with the community to ensure that the programs and activities are promoted and implemented, and hires and oversees part time and seasonal staff.
Schedule: This role will typically be scheduled between 8 AM – 5 PM Monday through Friday, but will require some evening and weekend work based on the programing schedule.
Pay: Hiring range of $76,865 – $90,429, with the opportunity to advance to $113,038 based on time in the role and successful performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and conduct operations of the AccessABLE Recreation programs
- Plans and develops recreational programs for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities.
- Contacts parents, guardians, and perspective participants in order to inform them of programs and opportunities for participation.
- Promotes the programs and opportunities to the community, including presentations and workshops on department programs.
- Coordinates with other community organizations serving these populations to best meet the needs and interests of the participants and their caregivers.
- Writes reports on activities, budget requirements, program needs and related matters.
- Informs participants and their caregivers of transportation options in order to aid participation in programs.
- Tabulates and records clients’ skill development, attitude, and participation in the program.
- Establishes policies and procedures for admission into AccessABLE recreation programs and dismissals form a program.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of activities of the program in order to improve the system, recommends changes, revisions, or related recommendations.
- Implements evaluation tools and methods to obtain feedback in order to design programs to best meet the recreational needs and desires of the participants and their caregivers.
Coordinate staffing and budget of the AccessABLE Recreation programs
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates volunteer and paid part-time staff.
- Provides staff training in program methods and objectives, behavior management, use of specialized equipment, etc.
- Oversees the budget for the AccessABLE recreation programs
- Writes funding applications and grants to supplement and/or expand program budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Completion of a 4-year degree in Recreation Therapy, Developmental Adapted Physical Education, Recreation Management, or a related field
AND 1-year of full time experience working with cognitive/developmental disabled populations, and designing and implementing of adaptive recreational programs.
Licenses and CertificationsValid driver’s license
